The Diwali or Festival of Lights is one of the largest festivals in India and it is celebrated every year by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains all over the world. The festivity marks the victory of good over evil and is followed by the Hindu New Year on 12 November.
Although the preparations and rituals take several days, the main festival night coincides with the darkest, new moon night of the Hindu Lunisolar month Kartika. In the Gregorian Calendar, Diwali falls between mid-October and mid-November.
